Hyperkalemia guidelines for patients

When you have kidney disease, your kidneys can’t remove extra potassium, and too much potassium can stay in your blood. High potassium, or hyperkalemia, is a serious condition that can be life-threatening. If you have been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, you may be at increased risk for high potassium. These guidelines, developed by kidney disease experts, are designed to help you work with your healthcare provider to manage and treat your high potassium levels.
