Some insurance companies may require one the patient’s healthcare provider to seek approval for coverage of a medicine before the prescription is printed. This is called -one previous authorization. The process of submit a pre-authorization request is different for each insurance company. Some insurance companies may have pre-authorization criteria or a list of standards that the patient must meet in order for the pre-authorization to be approved. Often insurance companies use the Food and drugs Administration (FDA) label in order for the drug to establish their prior approval criteria. Sometimes insurance companies may use prior approval criteria do not following the FDA label and creates additional restrictions on who can be prescribed the medicine. If someone with FA does not meet an insurance company’s prior authorization criteria, they receive an insurance refusal. This rejection can be challenged through the appeals process.
